Press release on the book "Opus" by Gareth Gore (Simon & Schuster)

The publisher Simon & Schuster has announced the forthcoming publication of the book "Opus" by financial journalist Gareth Gore. The cover and publicity for the book contain allegations of human trafficking, theft, political conspiracy, etc., which are absolutely false.

Over a period of two years, the Opus Dei Communications Office has been answering queries from the author and facilitating contact with people in London, Madrid, Rome, New York, Buenos Aires and elsewhere, responding to his requests for information and interest in specific topics.

We regret that the publicity now being put out by the publisher is more typical of a book of conspiracy theories and forced speculation than of the rigorous research we understood the author intended to carry out. We hope that this is the result of a marketing error and not a reflection of the content of the book.

The Opus Dei Communications Office intends to clarify in a documented manner - through this page - any questions that may arise.

In the coming months we will make available to readers material related to the topics covered in our conversations with the author, in order to provide facts and real data and to counteract any possible misinformation that the book might lead to. We will also include a series of questions and answers on topics that require clarification.

This response from the communications office does not preclude the Prelature's lawyers from taking whatever action they deem appropriate in view of the seriousness of the allegations in the above-mentioned publicity.

In the meantime, if anyone would like further information on the above or on Opus Dei in general, please contact Jack Valero (press.uk@opusdei.org).
